It also has a simple API for integrating into your site for whatever purpose. Sort of like Twitter automatically shortens URL's with TinyURL.

I knw I'm being captain obvious as well but there are tonnes of them out there now, and why bother using all these alternaties instead of just usoing TinyURL?

maybe you dont like tinyurl, maybe you like the way one of the other ones sound. personal preference, maybe? it does not really matter as long as it does what you want it to do.
