Poker Domain Seizures
What does everyone think about the poker domain seizures by the state of Kentucky recently? I personally believe they have no right in doing so. I may be wrong, but arn't all of the domains being seized located out of the US anyway?

I haven't really read up on this to be honest, but I did hear something a while back about some foreign poker company being sued by the US courts and losing apparently. Not too sure, I vaguely remember it. However, the courts should definitely not be taking away these domains as long as the site themselves are not breaking any laws in the region where they are hosted.

If the site is hosted in Kentucky, then tell them to take down the site. If outside of Kentucky, or even outside the US, they need to keep their hands to themselves before they start a war.
techdirt.com/articles/20090120/2045263471.shtml In fact, it seems that it was stomped on, on the grounds that a domain name is not a gambling device. Good! Last edited by Aries Wren; 04-23-2009 at 01:02 PM. |

This isn't over yet, however. Gov. Beshear of Kentucky has already filed to appeal this. I'm not sure why, though, since the domain owners already agreed to block members from Kentucky. Really there isn't anything else that they can do.

Well he can take that appeal, and shove it right up his ass. If he wants a domain, then he can take his cash that he nicked from the taxpayers, and buy it himself.
He's an idiot, plain and simple. This is one of the few times I say that an official should resign. |

hi,
i know there are some legal things with poker but they have no right to take the domain i think. this doesn't change the fact that they can. you really need to read the tos agreement. godaddy has a clause which allows them to do this. there is nothing wrong with having a poker domain as long as you are not running a gaming site on it and its hosted in the us or you are taking deposits from us customers. kevin |
