It pisses me off, I do quite a bit. Photoshop, Ultraedit, Firefox, Chrome, IE7, Opera, Safari, SSH, SFTP, IM, Remote Support, xRDP, VirtualBox VM's, LiveZilla, Thunderbird (email).
I generally have about that much stuff open at one time. Or more, as with firefox, I usually have 3-4 instances with ten tabs each open.

I usually have Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, 2 MSN's, iTunes, Firefox with about 15-20 tabs, CureFTP, and Notepad.
Runs smoothly here, but yea Vista isn't GREAT but I like it, works good for what need it for.

When I used Vista, I didnt like it. Performance wasnt up to par with XP at all. Its not like with Windows 7, though. Im using the beta and Im pleased. I cant wait to get my hands on a final product.
Also, as for the different version. Microsoft should only have two-three. Ultimate with everything, Home/Home-Premium for the regular users, and a business version.

Yes you should be able to upgrade from XP to Win7. I can't see what the problem would be in that.
(BTW I just counted my open tabs on Firefox, and I have 46 !)

It says in the Beta Installation Instructions that you either need to do a clean install or make a new disk partition if you do not have Vista SP1 or newer installed on your current system. I doubt they'll keep those requirements for the release version, but who knows.

Microsoft has compiled the latest build of Windows 7 at its labs. The latest microsoft build is Windows 7 Build 7106 . The build string is 6.1.7106.0.winmain.090408-1623 which shows that the build was compiled on 08th April 2009 at 16:23 Hours. Microsoft is also stimuntaneously compilling 70XX Series Builds.
Update: Build 7106 has been leaked in both x86 and x64. It's also in Chinese instead of English. Could be fake though. 7106.0.090408-1623_x64fre_client_zh-cn_Retail_Ultimate-GRC1CULXFRER_CN_DVD.iso |
