And in Joomla when the instructions have us create a menu entry, but make it unpublished or visible to only registered users... does this count as a hidden link?

Nice tips. I am wondering about that also. I use Joomla!, so there are many which I created but not published, many modules that I disabled. Is that considered hidden texts and links?

Also include:

Improper redirects
Spamming
Link farms
Door-way pages

These are the techniques that falls under black hat SEO which uses unethical ways just to get back link.
